Walken
We jammed again today after a long break and we ruled. Lots of material, most of it great, most of it pretty tight. Now.. live gigs. Apparently the "Greyhound" hotel in St. Kilda accepts tapes and gives new bands a go on special nights. If you can get 50 or so people in a few nights in a row they up you to the Espy Hotel, and if you're liked there, you get residency for a while.
Something to aim for. We're likely to do some 'live' 4 track demos soon and see how they come out. Its the first time I really felt like I'm in a band.
NME and Melody Maker merge
Melody Maker and NME
(music magazines in the UK) are to merge (via Null Device). NME will absorb Melody Maker. Acording to the article Melody Maker has been going since 1926, and I know NME has been going for a damn long time...
DVD
Short and sweet. I just joined the DVD generation. It's a new Hiteker AD600A and as far as everything I've read.. it ISN'T multizone. It definitely doesn't have the famed 'secret menu' anyway.
For $650 I could purchase a multizone Pioneer but that isn't cheap is it? This was cheap (but not as cheap as I could have found). And from photos you can see why. A moron designed this thing.
I only have a few gripes. When playing multiangle sceens (such as the entire Underworld's Everything Everything) a huge box in the top right corner lets you know what angle you're on. Oh.. thanks. And MP3 playback is great, except that it only displays the first 6 chars of a filename and then N#, not even a tilda. Lame to the extreme especially given I name files Artist - Album - N - Title.
I've been thinking about this region problem all day and looking at various things on the web and the only thing that bugs me about zoning is that products I want aren't available in my zone at the time I want them. I am incapable of ever understanding why products aren't released as Zone 0 (playable on anything). And don't go on about PAL/NTSC because it's irrelevant for most users these days. At least the Underworld DVD was Region 2 and 4 for simultanious release in UK and AUS.
But given the import prices and stupid costs of airmail from the US I don't see myself getting the Terminator 2 Ultra Edition or Transformers the Movie in any sort of hurry anyway.
Death Penalty
How can the USA have the death penalty and call themselves great? George Wanker Bush? You sir, are an idiot.
Dancer in the Dark
I bought the soundtrack and now I've finally seen the movie and I loved it. Very raw tearjerker. And it seems Bjork can act, as could those around her, except possibly the actor playing the police man. More later.
