Powderfinger
Ye olde PF made it to number 3 AND number 1 on this years Triple J Hottest 100, a public voted poll of the best songs of 2000. The songs? Number 3 was the crap b-side let's-give-it-away-for-that-MI2-soundtrack song "My Kind Of Scene (Oh Yeah)". Number 1 was "My Happiness", one of the only good songs on the album and damn is it average. Last year they won with "These Days" which at the time was only available on a soundtrack (repeat of bside comment above) or as a BSIDE on Passenger. Passenger is a fantastic song. These Days isn't. Grr. I'd give you a full list of the songs in the top 100 but I can't find one.

Mutopia
Somewhere were Mutants can live in harmony? No... a project very much like Project Gutenberg, except for musical scores. Brilliant. Download your music scores here.

Bucket o' tab
Speaking of scores, the cool little program I used to use for writing out guitar tab, Bucket 'O Tab is now freeware. Tab out your own music or someone elses, and then check it's validity using the midi playback function.

Metallica
I'm one of those people who used to love Metallica but lost them when Load came out. Finally, after all these years Jason has jumped ship. One of the claims is that he has damaged himself so much from playing 'the music that he loves' that he can no longer play. I read this on alt.rock-n-roll.metal.metallica a while ago and thought it was a joke.

Too bad it wasn't James quiting.

Music DVD
I've been hunting around for music DVDs and discovered a few jems. The Tea Party will be releasing a DVD in Feb with all their videos and hopefully something extra. Tool have just released Salival, a double DVD/CD (or Video if you're into that sort of thing) with all their videos Sober, Prison Sex, Stinkfist, AEnema and Hush. The CD is mostly live and includes some outtakes from AEnema. Unfortuately its going to be over AUS$80. Too much.

In the meantime check out KMart online in Aus. They have DVD/Video/CD for 15% off, which works out to pretty much wholesale prices. I just ordered the Alien's 5 Disc box set for less than $100. And to top it off postage within Aus is only $2.95 no matter how much you order. Go sick.

Also noticed that Gogs is coming out on DVD in the UK soon. That's three DVDs of plasticine fun I'll be thinking of getting from the UK soon. If it wasn't for the 20pound ($50Aus) price tag that is. :(

Vidconn has a nice list of all the (R1) music DVDs coming soon. A good R4 list can be found at EzyDVD. Just browse to Music.

Pointless reviews
I've always said and always will, it is pointless getting someone who hates a band to review their CD/Video. This happened here at Michael's DVD. They recently reviewed a DVD I was thinking of getting, Pantera's recent 3 Vulgar Videos From Hell. Pantera, being the nice blokes they are have released all their videos and a bonus concert all on one DVD instead of 3 like they could have. But this reviewer gives them the caining of their life. Enjoy.

That bloody EP thing again
Speaking of too much, that Powderfinger EP on ebay has gone over Aus$200 (82pounds). Sick and or twisted. You choose. The EP has 7 songs, only had 1500 pressed and is universally by the band and the fans who have it described as anything from 'pretty average' to 'shit'.

Buy music
A friend pointed me to Gemm, a fairly ugly site which includes a good searchable catalog of hundreds of online music stores. The same shopping cart can be used for all. I warn you though, for what I looked at, CDs would come up in the search but not be found on the shops actual webpage.
