Reminds me of the 'Ringworld' novel (I think) where people get addicted to implants which are inserted in the brain to directly stimulate the pleasure centre.
I can see future father/mothers now, "Don't give your remote out to just anyone Sue!"

Amazing News
Andrew Bowie acknownledged his interest in aquiring Yahoo today. "Yahoo is a great company," Andrew told the world in his weblog, "The problem is it's just overvalued.... I'll give 'em 50 cents for it!"
Oh, and so did Disney.
Is it just me or is most news just five paragraphs of made up fluff around one comment someone 'important' said?
Interview
An interesting interview at ZDNet with Andreas Schmidt, CEO of Bertelsmann E-Commerce group. It gives nothing away in terms of what they plan to do with 'commercial Napster' though.
Garageband.com
Garageband.com is similar to MP3.com and MP3.com.au in that it allows unsigned artists to upload their music. However, it's different in that in order to upload your music as an artist you must first review 20 other artists tracks. Also, songs that are uploaded are most likely to be heard by one of their industry reviewers, such as Brian Eno (yes, that one) and Bob Rock.
It's heavily artist focused but I've found (from experience) that that is definitely a good way to go with a music site, if your intention is to sign. Garageband.com will sign the number one artist on their site with a $250,000 contract. The charts are based on user reviews, the reviews of other artists and also how well the bands reviews were received by other artists. A very interesting system much different to the simple 'by download' charting system of MP3.com and .au.
I plan to put some music up but have only reviewed 10 tracks so far. I want to review the tracks properly, not just randomly and badly as otherwise I don't see the point. Unfortunately I can't see many other people going to this sort of effort (although it's far more likely given most reviewers will be fellow artists). We'll see.
