DVD Rot  #

As per usual they've stuffed it with DVDs. They should be perfect (as CDs anyway) last forever blah etc. But no, we have DVD Rot, an effect that kills a DVD by oxidizing it after 3 or 4 plays. But thankfully, "All the problem discs found so far have been so called RSDL (Reverse Spiral Dual Layer) discs and manufactured by WAMO (Warner Advanced Media Organization)" (from the article). So at least it isn't everything. I've just got to keep my eye out I suppose.

So now I have to keep my receipts for all my DVDs just in case. I hate that.

Hey, Regurgitator's FSO single on EBay for Aus$10. I'd have bid for that had it not been for the record fair a couple of weeks ago where I managed to purchase it for $5 in better condition.

Also picked up the promo for Pre_Shrunk's 'Digital Sunrise' with fact sheet. I may or may not end up at the Corner gig on the 7th (see Pre_Shrunk gigs page). But I'm in the mood for some new Shrunk...

AOL Time Warner, Bertelsmann and EMI. 3 out of the big 5. Using Real's iQ digital rights management for streaming and download. MusicNet.

People will flock to that which has the most content for the least amount of cash. Pity I hate Real Player (ad infested munge) and I hate the way most RealAudio content sounds (although I havn't listened for a while now). LAME encoded MP3 all the way.

Sony and Universal are of course building their own system called 'Duet'.

New Whitlams Single + Album  #

Looks like the Whitlams plan to release 'Make Me Hard' as the next single, with three live b-sides. After that the band will go on tour with a new guitarist and then settle down to record a new album. I was pretty disapointed with 'Love This City', mainly because it just sounded like majorly overproduced versions of old Whitlams songs that wern't good enough for 'Eternal Nightcap'.

Interestingly I just found out through the almost never posting Whitlams anounce mailing list that the vocals for 'Love This City' were recorded in one week straight after a winter of the flu. But it's not the vocals I have a problem with...
