Recording Studios  #

Walken has been preparing to go into a studio and record a couple of songs for a two track EP to sell / give away at gigs / to radio etc. We've been recording a few songs at Bruces place, one track at a time, and mixing on the computer. Not much equipment beyond an empty loungeroom, stero mic, minidisc recorder and a computer.

Heath did a search for studios and found many, most of which has examples of their recent demos and we can't help up think that we might be about to waste our money. Our crappy home recorded demo almost always sounds much better than the $500 recorded demo from these studios.

Their idea of a good demo is come in, play the song live a couple of times, pick the best, overdub a bit and mix. That just isn't good enough for us.

Maybe most bands go in and try to get seven songs done in a day and that's why they sound crap? We're only planning on two. We might go in and do one and see how that comes out and then go back if we're happy.

And what hurts most is that for the price of a week in a studio we could set ourselves up a studio at home with old-matress soundproofed room, four track mixer, a few mics and cables. And probably new multitrack soundcard.

Hours...  #

Subject URL: Hours...

No, not the David Bowie album, but my favourite topic. Long work hours. Apparently the average working week in the US (amoung Slashdot readers) is 40-50hrs. Interesting discussion above about the 'badge of honour' placed on those who work long hours and lose out on much needed sleep, get lots of money, burn out at 40, die lonely and rich, make their kids very happy... oh... harsh.

Flu  #

Take that back, it's the flu. Not as bad as my last bout, my chest isn't going to bursting and spreading Aliens throughout the land, but still pretty nasty. I might go and get a vacination for this if I get it again soon.
