Canada vs Napster  #

Subject URL: Canada vs Napster

Interesting article (via Slashdot) detailing the effects of Napster (or at least, "internet music") on Canadian record sales. Some scarey numbers involving CD burners too.

Some 74 million CDs and casettes [not singles] were sold last year -- down 6.4 per cent from the year before. . More interesting facts on singles too. Only 455,000 singles were sold in Canada last year, "compared to nearly 15 million singles (vinyl 45s) in 1984".

Um... wow. And in "the old days of rock and roll" a single cost "just under a dollar". Now it's "just under $10". I wonder how that is with inflation? Interesting history of the "record" too, and the initial fear of record labels of radio.

Lucky Burga has seen Gurge live. He informs us that "If their set was anything to go by the new album is going to have a lot of those heavy rap songs that a lot of people (me included) miss."

Also, some info from Aussie Music Scrapbook :
The album is due out in Japan on June 20th, Australia on July 16th, New Zealand on July 20th and Germany in September.

Lucky assed Japanese.
