DVD Singles  #

Subject URL: DVD Singles

I recently heard someone in the music industry call DVD singles the last great hope for single sales. Not only do you get the song but you get the video in awesome DVD quality. You can have extra tracks, menus, bio etc. all on the disc, without being as random and all over the place as most Audio-CDs with kind of info are. Except as the review above of Madonna's latest effort shows, they're $20. Given you can get a full DVD of all her videos (minus this one) for a similar price it's a bit much. I'm loving the idea though. Drop them down to CD single prices (too much for a single but I'd happily pay that for DVD video as well) of around $8-$10 and I'd be snapping them up.

I've said it a million times before and I'll say it again. I think the record companies are seeing a goldmine in the net and they're just starting to work out how they're going to do it... and they're doomed to fail.

The old method of distributing music, CDs, all the costs are on the record company. Distribution, production etc.

EMI investing in Roxio (Easy CD Creator), reminded me of the major issue in my mind with internet distribution.

* The user pays for the internet connection and download.
* The user pays for burning the product to CD.
* They still want you to pay the same price for it.
