Influences  #

I've been listening to Soundgarden a lot lately and it's really struck me how much I've been influenced by their music and how much it rocks. I still stand by my statements at the time that they should have broken up when they did. I love it when a band ends on a high. If Metallica had have broken up after "Load" I'd respect them a lot more than I do now. If R.E.M. broke up now I'd be happy. Same Powderfinger. Same Whitlams. Not Regurgitator though... ;/

I'm thinking of doing a compilation CD with songs that have influenced me, especially in my early years of guitar playing. Or maybe two, one for the old days, one for now. So far I'm thinking Soundgarden's "Jesus Christ Pose" and/or "Fell On Black Days", Smashing Pumpkins' "Disarm" or maybe "Mayonaise", some Metallica, some Faith No More, definitely The Sharp. These days would be Tori Amos, The Whitlams, Underworld, Propellerheads, Radiohead, Tool... I think it will be fun.

But like all compilations I've made I suspect I'll get over it very quickly... but it will be interesting to give to friends.
