Influence album  #

I'm throwing together a compilation CD of songs that have influenced me. I'm checking out the Smashing Pumpkins now, one of my one and only favourite bands from when I started playing guitar. I learnt to play pretty much every song on Siamese Dream. What is interesting is what I think I've been influenced by, and what a lot of my music actually sounds like.

I'm likely to put Mayonaise or Disarm on this CD, however on listening to the album, a lot of my songs are more like Sweet Sweet and Luna, the more simpler acoustic songs. Mayonaise is where I always wished I could be, but it looks like I've stuck with simple and sweet... because it's easier?

And choosing songs is hell. I've just relistened to all the Faith No More albums and I'm massively influenced by pretty much all of it. Or do I mearly like it? I can't think of a single one of my songs that you'd go "hey, that's Faith No More influenced". I'm most likely to pick Surprise, You're Dead! or maybe Zombie Eaters which is interesting because guitar wise I enjoyed most of King For Day, Fool For A Lifetime more. Songs like Get Out and Gentle Art Of Making Enemies have always ruled. In fact, I may still put Gentle Art on... being one of the first songs I bothered to learn properly to attempt to cover.

Hey look, Heath's here...

Telling moment  #

I have news. Interesting news. News worthy of this log. But I can't mention it. It's frustrating. I don't have a problem telling friends or family. I just can't talk about it here. Not yet anyway. I feel good that I have friends to talk about these things to, but I still feel something missing, and that is, that I can't write about it on this log.

Is that weblog addiction?

Thanks to the Mimicry newsletter I know know :

Mimicry Recordings is happy to confirm September 10 as the release date for Secret Chiefs 3's newest CD, "Book M".

Secret Chiefs 3 are Trey Spruance's (of Mr Bungle) project, containing a few other members of Bungle. They are fantastic live and I'm certainly hoping they arrive on our shores again soon.
