Does anyone know where The Odyssey went? The awesome Powderfinger discography used to be on One.Net (http://web.one.net.au/~stooch/) but it's dead now.
MP3.com has had (or has been involved in) a Digital Music summit during which they have been discussing the future of digital music and the leasons to be learnt from the last year of carnage.
CNet has a good overview of the summit and the issues discussed.
Choice quotes from Michael Robertson, MP3.com CEO :
On innovation :
"There's no room for small companies to do big things anymore"
On digital music sales :
"If the only thing they can do is listen to it on a PC they're not going to buy it."
Also mentioned in that article is the fact that Napster has been shut down in order to implement new technolgoy and has been asked by a judge to stay shut down until they can proove that they have done "everything in their power" to make their filtering software 100% effective. So that's the end of that then. Oh, and Metallica and Dr Dre have settled (via Slashdot).
Interesting side note, MP3Machine's top download for the last two months has been Morpheus.
Also on Slashdot, the results of a comparison between MP3, MP3Pro, Vorbis and Windows Media. The article and test are a load of crap of course because it was with only two songs and the testers knew which codec was what and had pre-formed opinions on the results.
My advice with music compression is use whatever you feel most comfortable with and whatever you think sounds best. It depends on your desired result. I still prefer the suggestions on r3mix.net and I still prefer MP3.
...Art is dead, long live Eduardo & Rodriguez! Damn this album is good.
New Fantomas album rules too BTW. And thanks to those collective types who already have collected together MP3s of the original versions of these horror movie themes. They're much appreciated.
