snap crackle poop  #

Listening/Watching my tape of 'Gurge on Channel V and I've been trying to figure out the pops I keep hearing every now and then. I was a little worried it was my soundcard playing again, but was fairly sure it was just Foxtel being weird. I finally figured it out...

It's the DJ's vinyl popping. How lame do I feel?

I remember hearing a story about lots of people taking Portishead's "Dummy" back to WalMart because of "damage". They were referring to all the pops from the vinyl mixing. And I've read about three posts in alt.music.mr-bungle asking if their CD is damaged thanks to the "crackling" at the end of "Bionic Vapour Boy". It's fake vinyl noise dude. "Vinyl?" they say...

They stole their cover off Spinal Tap  #

A "making of" DVD for Metallica's Black has been announced. Interviews, demos, videos. Sounds quite a bit like the first video from "A Year And A Half In The Life Of..." two video set that came out a long time ago. That video followed Metallica through the making of the self titled album. The second video followed them around on tour. From experience Metallica arn't that interesting to watch really. But DVD quality versions of their videos might be interesting... except the only one from that era worth mentioning from memory was "The Unforgiven" and possibly "Enter Sandman" if you're into truck vs. bed competitions.

James is in rehab (for drinkies) at the moment, putting off the recording of the new album. I think the new album should be hardcore Detroit techno. Only that would get me interested in the band again.

They've let computers at a bunch of poems by poets who took their lives, compared them to a control group who didn't and discovered that suicidal poets use less words about interpersonal relationships and their poems have more singular first-person references. (via Null Device)

How long before they run this sort of analysis on blogs?

HARD! Graham reviews Regurgitator's latest. Word. I agree with everything he says, except that I still feel Fat Cop is extremely lacking, I think it's mostly the shit production (and lame lyrics/rapping). But it does rock live. And "The Man" rules, as does "The Man (Part 2)". Very Pre_Shrunk vs. Drum+Bass.
