WTC Discussion from Dec '00  #

A "What If" discussion from airliners.net on a plane hitting the World Trade Center from December 2000.

The structure itself would survive, as the buildings are surrounded by other buildings, and thus only a hit could take place high up on the structure (meaning not at or reall near ground level) If it could somehow penetrate and hit the base, that would take it out completely, but a hit 500 or 600 feet up most likely wouldn't take out the whole thing.

Camera  #

I bought a camera and will be taking pictures that suit my strange eye. Friends beware! Today I took a few pictures of Melbourne, including of the Rialto from the ground, to go with the shots I took from it's observation tower last month. Yesterday I took a couple of shots of the Police Acadamy near my house from my roof.

To get us started, here is a black & white photo essay of the Melbourne CBD by Adam Dimech.

And a nice image of the Melbourne skyline from the bay.

Metallica vs. Rap  #

"I spin two 12-bar verses with Metallica on their new big, huge record they got that's crazy," Ja Rule said.

Need I say more?

More album cover changes  #

Dream Theater changed the cover to their recent 3CD live release (which I must get a hold of) "Live Scenes From New York" which features a "big apple" surrounded by barbed wire and a small image of the New York skyline in flames. DT have also released an R1 DVD a while back (and will be releasing a PAL R2 version soon), "Live Scenes From New York" which looks excellent but has had some bad reviews (mainly complaining about the audio).

I feel I have to say, we should not be attempting to remove the World Trade Center from our lives all together. Dropping posters for Spiderman just because they have the WTC Towers reflected in Spiderman's eyes is paramount to pretending they never existed which is just wrong. We need to celebrate their existance. We cannot ever forget they were there and the people who died when they left.

I'm interested to see how TV shows set in (and pratically about) New York deal with the tragedy (ie. Sex In The City + the millions of others). They cannot possibly ignore it.

The Beastie Boys video for "Alive" has many excellent scenes of New York from memory in it's 6 or so angles...

Bruce (our drummer) left my band Walken to work on his own band. The Junkers have been gigging around Melbourne for the last month, check out a (home recorded) demo on MP3.com.au. "The Junkers hope to give something substantial back to the music community that inspired them."

Pre_Shrunk have been nominated for an ARIA in the "Best Independent Release" category for their debut album "Digital Sunrise". They are up against Allan Browne's New Rascals "East St Kilda Toodleloo", John Butler Trio "Three", Nitocris "Manic" and Stella One Eleven "In Your Hands". My pick? Obviously I'd like Pre_Shrunk to win but it'll probably go to Stella One Eleven.

Regurgitator - Superstraight  #

A video for "Superstraight" has been making the rounds of the TV music video shows last week, bringing up speculation it may be the next single. The video shows Regurgitator dressed in suits playing their music around a deserted suburb.

Big Brother  #

Looks like CBS were much harsher than expected. They told everyone in the US Big Brother house that 'a jet crashed into the WTC, but all your families are OK', even when one of the people in the house has a cousin who is missing and presumed dead. Many other Big Brother houses around the world haven't even been told anything. Welcome to 2001. (via Plastic)

Masses of questions + articles @ Plastic now.

If compulsary conscription is brought in in Australia, I will not go to war. I'll go to jail.

I don't want war of any kind but it seems the US and even our government wants nothing else.

I've yet to hear from Heath. Heath is in Europe. I'm sure he's fine. I don't like not being able to communicate. We are spoilt beyond belief with todays mobile-phones and e-mail.

Dubya - "This crusade, this war on terrorism, is going to take a long time."

Am I the only one terrified by the word "crusade?" It brings up all sorts of nasty images of knights sweeping across the land killing all who don't believe...
