Annual Leave  #

Annual Leave is not leave if you can still be contacted from work. If your work still expects to be able to contact you during your time off this is called "being on call". You should be paid more for it. I was called in on Monday. It was an emergency, there was no other choice for the company. I'm over it now but I was furious at the time. I could think of no sin worse for a company to perform against it's employees, except not paying them of course but I'm not going there...

The news of Ansett employees (and many others from other companies like them) having the chance of missing out on their entitlements infuriates me. There must be a law to ensure that employees are paid their full entitlement, on time, no matter the financial situation of the company, be it "entitlement insurance" on the companies part, I don't care how, it just has to happen. Otherwise we'll just have to abolish all paid leave altogether because if there is any chance that it won't be paid out, what is the point? It's like digging into an employees bank account and stealing four weeks pay and saying "sorry can't pay it, we don't have the cash"...

Let's hope there are some huge changes very soon...

On a happier note, I'm on holidays and appart from the hicup on Monday I've been loving it. A week off doing sweet eff all is what I needed. What's more, after next week, if all goes well, I'll do it all again. *relieved sigh*

"That is why they call the end of the world... Manhattan".

See this movie if only for the horribly naive scenes of New York, terrible mirror images of unforeseen reality and an optimistic future for humans that may never be told the same way again.
