Deleting duplicate records in SQL Server  #

The database I use for pretty much everything was upgraded today and the restore of my data went a bit nutzo and I had duplicates of every record in the database. This is a little annoying and difficult to fix as if you try to delete a duplicate it'll delete both records, not just the extra one.

I fumed for a bit then found this article which hinted at what I had to do. It's as easy as SET ROWCOUNT 1 and then running the DELETE statement to delete a record. It'll only delete 1 record then, not both. Yay. A few seconds later I have a script to run through my whole server and fix the problem. Now we wait and see what order my system admin gets the emails I've sent him... "Re-restore please", "Wait! All fixed now!". ;p

Nerdiness over... back to coding my CD database. Hang on, that's nerdy too. Damn.

sonicanimation @ Prince Of Wales 2nd Nov 2001  #

Last Friday I went to see sonicanimation @ The Prince of Wales in St. Kilda with a few friends. There were just the right number of people there, not too packed, not too empty... room to dance but with enough people around to hide how crap you are.

sonicanimation themselves were a fairly large disapointment. The first four tracks or so were a major let down, the gig moving at a slow pace. There was one new track that may as well have been really bad euro pop or something. Terrible. But then they politely asked if they could "speed things up a little" and the gig made a nice turn for the better. A few more newer tracks that were of far better quality, mixed with "Love Lies Bleeding" and they were off stage after only 45 minutes. Of course they returned and played a few more new tracks... more of the same. I just wasn't very impressed. A very average gig.

But things improved when the band left with DJ Billy Wizz turning the little vinyl things and cutting up the reduced crowd. By the time we left it was around 2:30am, most dancing I've done for a while. Loved it.

I notice Billy Wizz supported sonic last time I saw them. At the time I said "BW was nothing special. A pretty good DJ but it was a fairly standard set, he's certainly no Jeff Mills but that is hardly fair". I guess it depends on the mood.

The Tea Party - The Interzone Mantras  #

As promised, I've reviewed Tea Party's new album. Along the way I discovered a few excellent Tea Party fan sites including this site with lyrics, discography, biography etc. I also like this sites comment on the Sister Awake mailing list, a rather large bunch of nutzoid fans you rarely see outside of Dr. Who mutoids...

I do not have a link to the sister-awake mailing lists as I find the people on that list somewhat arrogant and not very tolerant of other peoples opinions especially if they contradict their's. And please if you do join never make a mistake - they will eat you alive.

And Teapartyaz.com, a nice collection of Tea Party multimedia.

Michael Jackson called me a vegetable  #

Today is a public holiday due to the Melbourne Cup. Bunch of horses running around for people to throw their money at. Yawn.

How am I spending my random day off? Listening to wacky CDs (Michael Jackson's Thriller is dugadugging through my speakers right now) and thinking of adding some functionality to my CD database software. If today had have been as nice as Sunday I might have gone for a drive, taken some photos, but not today. Rain rain rain.

Speaking of photos, I found a massive pile of "reject" photos from my collection over the years. Shoved away because I didn't think they were worthy of puting in an album. They are all of course fantastic photos worthy of blowing up and framing... it's funny how tastes change.
