Vote  #

It seem to be the habit of bloogers at the moment to blah about voting. I voted Dems first, Green, ALP, and Libs last in the fires of eternal hell locally and Dem above the line in the senate. Above the line I could have gone either Dems or Green but figured the Dems had more of a chance. Hopefully I was right. We'll find out tomorrow.

UK quietly freaks out over US agressiveness  #

Rumours flying that the US wants to attack Iraq next and the UK isn't happy. (via Null Device) More rumours that the US asked Germany to supply support for the war. Japan has supplied war ships for non-combat supply missions. Our Prime Minister has sent off our Australian troups, and the opposition leader agreed with him. For all I know anyone in power would have done it.

My Dad (who was trained in the army around the time of Vietnam but never went) said they wouldn't take me into the army, my eyes and knees and general health are far too screwed. Small comfort for someone who wouldn't have gone anyway.

Ban all Macs  #

Finally the excuse we've all been looking for to ban that evil computer The Mac forever! They can read the new "copy protected" CDs! They must be stopped! Piled in the streets and stomped on! Crushed into pieces and used as landfill! And we should use this chance to drag out all those scanky "graphic artists" and stomp on them too. *cough* (via The Null Device)

Big Day Out 2002  #

System Of a Down have been added to the Big Day Out (annual Australian mega-music tour) for 2002. System's latest album Toxicity would easily be one of my fav albums this year so I'm afriad I might have to go, despite the massive ~$95 ticket price. Who else is going worth seeing? Thats a question isn't it...?

Alien Ant Farm (you know, that band with only one song and it's a cover, how sad), Silverchair, Faithless, Spiderbait, Something For Kate, Machine Gun Fellatio, Prodigy, Garbage (isn't their new album just?), New Order, Regurgitator (!!!!!!), The Crystal Method and Magic Dirt. And more of course. And more to come.

Unfortunately I went to Big Day Out 1999 and it mostly pretty crap. Not because the bands were bad but because it was just so hard to enjoy a gig when there are 50,000 people pressed against you while the band plays 20 thousand miles away on a massive stage with shit sound. Regurgitator ruled, Powderfinger were boring, Korn were tiny and surround by millions as were the Superjesus and Soulfly. Happyland jammed on on a tiny stage with no-one watching and that ruled. They were up against Hole ya see. TISM lost power a little too often to keep me interested.

Next year if I went I'd be spending a fair bit of time in the dance tent between acts. Must remember not to be crushed to death by thousands of kindie metal fans... Monday 28th Janurary 2002 (Australia Day holiday).l

It's dark...  #

1:55pm, Friday, 10th November 2001 :
All the computers turned off and everyone went "arghawwwwww" and laughed. It was like the scream in the school bus when it drives through a tunnel and we're all momentarily thrown into darkness. A few (landline, mobile networks were out) phone calls informed us that the power was out throughout a large part of the CBD and Western suburbs and who knew where else. My radio (those stations still on the air) informed us only that "it wasn't Citipower's fault". Um yay, thanks. An annoying bell turned out to be numerous people stuck in the lifts.

Once it became clear that nothing seriously bad had happened I calmed down a little, took the time to relax. We sat around and talked hobbies. Star Wars. DVD. Music. I sat there thinking there wasn't a single thing we chatted about hobby wise that didn't require power. We suggested going down to the pub, but the beer pumps require power. Damn technology.

Then the lights came back on, and we went back to work, like nothing had happened. The adventures of the CBD worker never cease.
