Return to the past...  #

Dave reviews Tori Amos' from the choirgirl hotel. He used to hate it, now he loves it. I remember Dave hating Aliens 3, and now he likes it. Repeat with The Matrix. I challenge Dave to ring up everyone he used to hate...

I tend to have the opposite effect with my past. Albums/movies/people I used to love, now, when returned to, no longer tickle my fancy.

Maybe Dave is becoming more accepting, while I become more critical. Maybe... mostly... who gives a flying... the past is for pissing in.

Personally I liked Choirgirl when I bought it. I didn't love it. I still don't love it. Maybe I'll go burn all her CDs.

DVD = 8 Track  #

The Age : New disks could make DVDs obsolete. New format using blue laser is being developed that will hold 25Gig vs. DVDs 4.7 Gig for the same sized disc.

I think something needs to be done now about all of this before it gets stupid (too late). They're tying the software format (ie. "DVD" with all it's features, track marks, subtitles etc.) to the disc format (ie. multilayed high-density CD sized disc).

Why can't we just have "DVDs" but less compressed (due to the new lump oh space). Isn't a DVD just MPEG with frillybits? Surely they factored in size increase when they designed the DVD "software"?

Why can't we just have VCDs on the new discs? Maybe we will. Simplicity and ease of use may well win out. CDs will stay because they're perfect. They're small, they're excellent quality. We don't want any more (except maybe length).

I always thought DVD could be used as a CD, but just longer. The thought of having every album of a band on one CD/DVD appealed to me (this thought was well before MP3).

But they had to go and create DVD-Audio which is "better quality" and the same length. And guess what? It failed because it's bloody useless. Only boring people can tell the difference.

Format. Narf. I want "Audio" format and "Video" format. Which is why PCs rule. MPEG/MOV/AVI/WAV/MP3, whatever. It's all 0s and 1s. You get new software, you play. You plug in your CD/DVD player. When this new format comes out you'll have your CD/DVD/Blueray player.

ARGH!

Zim un-cancelled  #

Slashdot informs us via HotTopic that Invader Zim has been un-cancelled (thanks Alex). The story goes that they kept moving the timeslot, thus it constantly received bad ratings. Once they decided to can it, they kept it in a slot and the ratings went up. Even if the story is lies lies lies, let that be a lesson to us all...

My requests. Invader Zim on DVD. Invader Zim toys, and not plush crap either, I was StarWars-esque figures. And a pony! Damn it daddy I want a pony!

And while we're at it Slashdot informs in the same article of rumours of Futurama being cancelled (well, thinking about it anyway), and Family Guy. Why don't they just cancel the Simpsons and be done with it. Please. Kill it.
