The role of the fan...It's fairly common for a band to request from fans copies of live recording and old releases they no longer own. If it weren't for fans copying and keeping copies of this sort of material, no-one would. Same goes for TV shows. Often the TV stations copy of a show will be destroyed or lost and they put out the call to fans who taped it (see Doctor Who and Young Talent Time... actually don't see Young Talent Time).
Some brainiac has suggested that the current rule of extending copyright in the US may be unconstitutional. I'd hate to think that they had to use that 200 year old document to get out of all of their messes. How about we just say it's wrong and it should be fixed. It should have been fixed ages ago.
