Getting gigs...  #
Sunday, 16 Jun 2002 10:40PM
Spent Saturday driving around and calling for gigs with Heath. A few surprises. It seems a few of the places that used to do gigs no-longer do. Such a pity. Parking is impossible anywhere around Brunswick street on a Saturday night. Dropped off CDs for The Tote and The Evelyn and plan to send off for The Espy and Edward's Tavern. Still need to drop off a CD to the Armadale. Should be a couple of weeks. Most places have a staff member whose job it is to listen to the hundreds of crap demos that come through the pub and decide who to put on. If you're not terrible they might put you on Monday night. If you pull a crowd you work your way up.

Interesting talking to a few people to hear that a lot of places will refuse to hire you for a gig unless you are a registered business and sign a contract absolving yourself from Workcover claims etc. A few bands have sued for Workcover after having fallen off the stage.

Not to mention the whole GST thing, but the likelyhood of us making over $50,000 (the minimum you have to earn to bother registering for an Australian Business Number) is pretty damn small.

At least this year ;p

Oh yeah. Go here!
