Back to the Future DVD  #

The Back to the Future DVDs have been reviewed in a crazy 24 hour DVD nerd session at Michael DVD. Bless their hearts. They sound fantastic, excellent sound and transfers. Thinking about it, I don't think I watched any other movie in my childhood as often as I watched BttF.

And the discussion of product placement was interesting - they were insistent on using products whose logos had changed between the 1950s and the 1980s - that's why Pepsi got the nod over Coke (the Coke bottle hadn't changed), and why the petrol station was Texaco rather than Shell (apparently Shell offered more money, but they stuck to their guns).

They managed to collect most of the key members of the original cast, but they had to cast different actors for George McFly (Jeffrey Weissman) and Jennifer (Elizabeth Shue). George isn't important, because about the only talking appearance he makes is as an old man, and upside-down. But Jennifer (Marty's girlfriend) is important - we get to see her in close-ups. I'm impressed by how very close in appearance she is - I very much doubt I'd have noticed if it weren't pointed out.
