Virus  #

I appear to have had my email stolen by a virus in the past week. Someone out there is spamming the world using my email address because I'm getting all the bounce-backs and virus warning emails. I believe it was something like the HTML/IFrame exploit as that is what is being sent to everyone else "on my behalf". I've received a few Klez-H viruses in the past month but I don't believe it was that (unless it used the "incorrect MIME" exploit where attachments are automatically run but my virus program should have picked that up).

Anyway, now I have to set up some clever filter to dump all the bouncebacks but still let real email in. Stupid bloody email. Stupid bloody virus checking software for not picking it up. Stupid bloody me for not turning off HTML email viewing. Luckily this should be fairly easy as it's my ISP email that has been nicked, not my "real" email.

At least it (the virus) should only have been on my old computer which will now never see a network again so I should be safe.

Speaking of the new computer... all home and all good. Windows XP is freaky but much less so once changed back to the "classic" look of Win2k. Had a bit of a glitch where it forgot what monitor it had and wouldn't fix itself until I uninstalled the video card but otherwise clean install. Still have to install some software (mainly for recording) but video capture is going nicely. Should be dumping the WALKEN VHS's to SVCD anytime now. Expect many a rant about that to come.

Anyone have any hints on dumping new soundtracks (from minidisc) on to existing video (with crappy handicam sound) and getting around any synching problems I might (will) have?

Flat screens... why do they always look like they're bending inwards? My stupid eyes expect the screen to be concave like your normal CRT and adjust for me...

The MAudio Audiophile soundcard is very nice although the interface for the backend mixing software is pretty nasty. Once that's sorted though... noticeably clearer playback than my old SBLive. Try recording (from minidisc) tonight. A preamp would be useful for both turning up (guitars) and turning down (tape deck) input. There is no pre-amp in the card. Oh, and even though it's a two input card, they're both mono. If you want stereo you need to use them both. But they are truely seperated thus making multitracking much easier.

And having FM in your PC is far cooler than I could have ever expected. And it has a time. I have my FM TIVO.
