Press release here (via Michaeldvd.com.au)
Video capture card issues continue. Eventually got some results I was happy with, but I've gone back to the original drivers with the original software that came with the card. Virtual VCR, iuVCR and various other products all gave unsatifactory results (too many dropped frames, weird sync effects). The iu enanced drives mentioned yesterday actually ran worse.
I also still have the problem updating the drivers of the Leadtek tv2000xp card, getting the "Access is Denied" error. I've narrowed down a few things. The drivers that work are not "digitally signed" for XP, the ones that won't install are signed. A lot of articles indicate it may be permissions either on the drivers directory in C:\Windows or permissions in the registry. Experiments with both have failed but I havn't tried installing in Save Mode yet.
I'm going to stick with what is working for the moment. I can't see a driver update improving anything significantly.
Experiments with 640x480 uncompressed capture have worked quite well, with conversions to SVCD also working with no noticable audio sync problems except for about a second at the end which the guys at VCDHelp are sure to be able to explain and have a fix for.
Now to improve audio... currently maxing my card out with the loud output of my VCR. Then on to inserting new audio! Joy.
