Non-compete  #
Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:05AM
I signed a new contract last year that effectively said I couldn't work for any of my companies' competitors for 6 months after leaving. Every contract I've signed as said this. It's complete rubbish and I don't know anyone who pays any attention to it except to the point where as a consultant I wouldn't just quit my job at the consulting company and work for who I'm consulting for.

This is a interesting article about a similar situation (although only 90 days) for a man trying to work through a 90 day non-compete clause and the resulting legal action [via Slashdot].

ScriptingNews Dave has a rant about how why we all have to pay for software and comes across sounding like the RIAA. Ok... that's a little harsh. He has a point. Software isn't just entertainment. Software is in everything these days. I still find it strange that we need software in everything and yet the IT industry is so screwed. Same reason the "building industry is screwed" I suppose, even though there are more cranes in the air in Melbourne than I ever remember.

It's interesting that software is one of those things that people are quite happy to put thousands of hours into for free and give away the final product. Just like music.

To clarfiy, WALKEN gig on this Sunday 1st June and Friday 18th of July. Not 13th June as in the last post.
