RIAA Online  #

Julian Dibbell does what everyone wishes they could do. Make money from nothing. "Nothing" being working full time playing Ultima Online and selling his goods on eBay.

I think the RIAA should get in on this. Obviously Ultima Online has a well controlled ability to control the "items" a player has and finds. Imagine an online world where kids ran around finding music from their favourite artists, be it b-sides or live concerts or the latest top 10 hit. Imagine kids virtually going to a virtual Metallica concert with their virtual minidisc recorder to "earn" the right to attach to their player the "Metallica live @ Myer Music Bowl, Australia, Melbourne 2003" MP3 collection. Then they could sell that "item" on eBay to others. The "transfer" which I assume would have to happen "in game" would include a little bit on the side to pay for Lars' singlets and James' fire repellent and bang! Problem solved. I would play it.

In his campaign appearances so far, Schwarzenegger has insisted he is so rich that he cannot be bought and will not be beholden to special interest groups. Slashdot's likely question: "but what is his policy on the RIAA and P2P?"
