Bang!  #

Quick self update. Work being crazy again... may be working part time soon. Any time when I'm not working from next week will be excellent, time to do guitar takes for the drums we're doing on Saturday.

The support thing I'm doing now is working out well, less stressed now, it's a nice spot (lower numbers end of Collins street). Freaked myself out by noticing just how many buildings in and around Collins street I've worked in in my life. Lots.

A guy at work has an iPod. I noticed today. I thought he was listening to Triple M or something but after an hour or so I heard no inane chatter so I figured he was playing MP3s from something. Very 90's alternative taste: Pearl Jam, Chilli Peppers, U2, Nirvana etc. with similar sounding things from more modern times. Not to horrible to listen to. He's one of those guys that swears a lot under pressure, which I like.

Been trying to mentally calculate how much my entire CD collection would take up as an MP3. I believe it might fit on an iPod. That is horribly scary. How long before our entire DVD collection fits on an iPod? Next year?

External USB 2.0 Hard Drive on Mac/PC?  #

I plan to put together an external hard-drive for the weekend's recording. I have a 120Gb hard drive. I am to buy a $99 external USB 2.0 cradle for it tomorrow. What I need to know is the following:

  • Can Mac (it's a <1-year-old G4) read/write a PC hard drive via USB 2.0 (it'll be a FAT32 drive).
  • Can Mac Pro Tools write a PC readable WAV file to a PC hard drive?

I know Mac has problems reading multiple partition PC drives and also cannot read NTFS. I plan to mac it one huge 120Gb Fat32 drive, or possiblely three 40Gbs although I don't really care. I realise FAT32 cannot have files over 4Gb, we shouldn't have anything over 300 Meg.

Basically we want to go there, use the Mac, then copy the recorded tracks as PC readable WAV files, plug the USB drive in at home and import the WAVs into our software at home. They'll be 16bit WAVs.

These are the only unknowns at the moment. Anyone want to answer, please leave a comment. Thanks.
