Finished Stephen King's Dark Half. It is pretty damn crap. I guess I'll get around to seeing the movie (staring Christopher Walken) again one day.
Copying music for your own personal use is legal in Canada. On top of that, they have a levy on copy media (CDrs and tapes) which seems to legalise all copying of music. This levy has collected $70m since 1998. Story via Slashdot.
ScriptingDave keeps freaking me out talking about Blog Graham. He means a different Graham... Reminds me of uni and discussions of "default Dave" and "default Andrew". Who in a social group of many Daves gets to be called by the first name, while the rest are stuck with a nickname or surname.
Ah... suddenly it makes sense why I got a seat on the train today and why all the gromits were in casual dress. Teacher strike... reading that a lot of the teachers are taking annual leave today. Is a strike where everyone takes annual leave for a day still effective? It depends on the job I'm sure. No-one would really miss me if I wasn't here for a day, unless something went wrong.
It's a Wonderful Life rubbed something in when I watched it. That the loan, that is, the concept of the house loan, is so that rather than living in a horrible little rental flat the rest of your life until you save enough for a house to buy it outright, you can live in said house instantly, then pay off the bank while living in luxury and raising your family or whatever. It's obvious I know...
The idea of saving $200k+ today to buy a house outright seems a bit of a joke. Your average person would take many decades to save even close to this, and in that time house prices would go up so much the $200k would look a bit pathetic.
Which is of course the whole point...
I was asked today if I was bored at work (maybe he looked at my http logs). I couldn't exactly lie to him... He suggested it's my companies fault for putting me in work that doesn't use my skills. I couldn't agree more.
Virtual walk down 1864 Collins street. But can you play the before and after game?
Would have had a new photoblog entry (view down Collins street from work, 9th floor office building) but my ISP was down so it should go up tonight.
Listened to the new Ween album, "quebec". It's OK but nothing on it has grabbed me in the way White Pepper did. It is good to see the more experimental crazy side reappear that almost disappeared on White Pepper, a very pop album. The b-sides on the new Powderfinger single Love Your Way are all extreamly dull, except maybe for the demo which gives you "if you thought the song was crap now wait until you hear what it sounded like before a producer got to it".
Non-Walken fans turn off. More demos tomorrow. Guitars and Drums are "done" for Lego Woman, Laundry and Pick Me Last. Right Again might be dumped from the Backhouse sessions. Not really happy with the drums. Maybe an acoustic version will come out. The original 'Bruce Drums demos' eight seven are all done, but mixing Away again tomorrow. I suppose I might leak a CD of the original seven once I finish Away.
Just got offered a two day a week contract job for a month or so at one of the places I used to work. I could do it, but it would be illegal unless I quit first. It would be so much fun. And music database related too. *sigh*
