Zim Eats Waffles is brilliant. Soulstealer is pretty darn good too. Frycook is OK but suffers the same fate most of the full half hour Zim episodes suffer. The pilot episode is very interesting. The story is OK but more fun to watch is the character development. Zim sounds a lot like Gir and looks a lot like Johnny The Homicidal Maniac. Gaz, Dib, Ms Bitters are all there but they talk just that little bit out of character. Some jokes from later episodes are there, but it's more kiddie, like they tried to play up the cartoon edge. At the same time, it's more messed up. It's a lot more Jhonen.
I had a sammich in my head!
Oh my GOD! Someone please do this for Melbourne! Panaramic shots of Vancouver in Canada from 1970s compared to now. Click the links to view the full paranoramic shot, the click "2003" button to see the same shot from 2003 fade over the top. Beautiful!
I love the way articles about Arnold Schwarzenegger's trip to Republican leadership are in the Entertainment section of the age.
Large (8) earthquake in Northern Japan [The Age]. No one killed. Up to 120 people injured.
The only "mishap" I'm aware of involving rides at the Royal Melbourne Show as with the Mad Mouse rollercoaster (I remember something about a cart coming of the rails and a death but I can't find any reference to it on the web). Looks like it's had some carnage again, with two carts colliding, putting one person in hospital in a serious but stable condition. Also yesterday the chairlift was stopped in high winds and 25 people had to be crained off. Photos from the chairlift from last Sunday soon.
Make that six cars crashing, 5 people in hospital, 12 injured [ABCNews]. Caused by a lost hat jamming the breaks of one cart.
Good use of DVD technology in the new DVD release for 2002's Insomnia (part of the evil Robin Williams trilogy). For the commentary the branching has been used to reorder the film's scenes into production order...
This commentary is a little different to the usual type of audio commentary. Using the branching abilities of DVD, the movie is played in the order it was filmed, while director Christopher Nolan delivers his commentary. The commentary itself is very interesting, as Nolan talks almost continuously about a wide range of topics, including his theories on theme and action, the visual decisions made, and the reasons for certain plot points. The presentation of the movie in production order makes this commentary even more interesting, as it is fascinating to see exactly where the actors have to take themselves on different days.
AFL Grand Final parade went right past my window at work. Took a bunch of photos of the crowds.
I planned to see Ethan DJ at Old Bar on Johnston street Saturday night, but I've just remembered a bunch of friends are doing a singing performance the same night and I should probably go to that. Maybe I can go to both. Ethan is good if you're into 80's hip-hop with 50's drum beats and crazy movie sounds. He's playing 9pm to 3am.
Also, there is some breaks night on at Laundry which looks nice.
RdotEdotMdot's best of looks as good as any best of with two bonus tracks would look, but the bonus b-sides CD looks ace.
Finished off guitar for nine of the ten Bakehouse demos yesterday (no Post Mixed guitar yet). Only Right Again still needs a little bit of work. Now it's on for Daniel to do bass before he goes away.
Looks like the EP will be put off until Feb when Daniel gets back from Turkey. We felt a bit rushed having to do it in November and the last thing we need is me trying to play bass again like on Glory. We're going to shop the demos around while he's away in an attempt to get some cash. We have three days studio time so far. Would like two or three more.
Managed to track down all the latest Invader Zim episodes. I've watched one so far (Voting of the Doomed) and it wasn't great but it didn't suck either. Apparently Zim Eats Waffles is the best of the lot. I'm particularly interested in seeing the unaired pilot episode. There are only around three finished season 2 episodes still left to be seen.
