Setlist Database  #

Exactly the idea I've had for a while and very nearly built, setlist.com. A central, fan administered database of setlists from any band you choose to think of or contribute too. The copyright notice on the page indicates the page (or at least it's data) has been around since 1997. It currently has 69637 shows listed by various bands.

Although it's fantastic someone has started the work for me (and I'm thinking of becoming an Administrator of some new bands), I'd suggest:

  • The ability to download the info for each band, probably in XML, for use in fan sites etc. There is no point putting this info out there unless you spread it around. Also, should the page die or stop being updated, a nice format like XML should make reproducing the site again easier.
  • An easy way to import shows using uploaded XML.
  • It needs a design update, make it look a little less ugly and more people will use it.
  • Should split the searches up so users are not presented with such a huge amount of data when you click a band's name.
  • A source for each setlist (fan wrote it down at the show? audience recording? TV broadcast?).
  • Recording information for each show.

I'm still tempted to build my own, however I'm wary of just repeating the work of cv.org/database (not updated since 2001) and pattonttrader (not updated since?). I've offered to help cv database out but haven't had a reply yet.

Meanwhile, I want this job @ The ABC Archives department, but it's in Canberra so that's an instant no. And I have to admit, appart from my obsession with audio/video and databases, I really only want the job to get my hands on the Live At The Wireless archives.
