A discussion at Indie Initiative about playing at Laundry in Johnston street. My band has played at Laundry many (five?) times now and we love it. Great PA, nice stage, always pulls a 100ish crowd. However it has recently changed management. The original band booker is gone and the "rules have changed". Our last gig there provided us with no rider unless we pulled 100+ people. No big deal really although some bands were a bit annoyed by it. The discussion above indicated they're now asking bands to pay to play there if they don't make X amount from the bar.
It's an interesting threat really. People come to Laundry because bands play there. If no bands play there, they'll make less money surely? The band provides the door person, the mixer, the crowd. The venue provides the bar person, PA and security.
We were thinking of having our CD launch at Laundry but we're thinking about Armadale back room now, or possible Evelyn.
