Sites like this should be given special internet history medals. The amount of effort involved is insane, and all done with with fan-power.

Dream Theater Tourography.

Meanwhile, this tribute to Metallica's St Anger [MP3 link] made my week. Funnier than the real thing. "Complex just like justice!". Lyrics here.

Fans of David Bowie's live shows might like this site.

Oh yeah, and Beatallica finally released their second EP. I guess they decided they're not going to get sued by Metallica or The Beatles. Site includes a bittorrent link to FLAC (lossless compression) version of the EP. Coolness. Bandwidth... melting...

Music my parents would be proud of...  #

Went music nuts yesterday while waiting for photos to develop, popped into JB and spent the money my lovely parents gave me for my birthday. Spitting in the face of "new music" everything I bought is at least 20 years old, in one way or another.

One of the albums my parents owned that I've enjoyed listening to the most was John Farnham's "Full House". "Playing To Win" is one of the best songs in the universe, and the version of Full House is the best.

I know this because I also bought the best of the Little River Band. The version of Playing To Win on this album (ie. the original studio version, still with John Farnham on vocals) is great but doesn't quite have the energy of the live version, and the live version puts more focus on the kick ass keyboard riff and cuts out all the dead air. That said there isn't much else I like on the best-of. The couple of LRB songs I recognised were OK, and the J.F. on vocals songs were also OK, but nothing great. Sounds like the compilation isn't a winner for Little River Band fans either, with tracks being cut short...

Grabbed Simon & Garfunkel live in Central Park DVD for $12. Here's to you...

Bought K the single for Spiderbait's cover of "Black Betty" which I have to admit is pretty cool, unlike anything else Spiderbait seems to do these days.

AND, the first (?) of what will hopefully be many (?) Triple J archive releases with Midnight Oil's DVD/CD "Best Of Both Worlds" which includes video of the very popular and highly traded "Goat Island" gig and another full gig at The Capitol AND the whole Goat Island gig on CD (to save me ripping it). "The Sharp : Live At The Wireless" collection can only be months away! (hahahah.... sniff). Interestingly the release is available in DVD sized packaging or CD sized packaging, a trend that seems to be on the increase (I last noticed it on the recent Silverchair live release). Why are they doing this? Do they monitor each release differently and compare how many sell? Are the people buying the CD sized packaging wanting mainly the music and the DVD is a bonus and vice-versa?

Powderfinger are putting out a DVD soon, live material from their last tour. I forsee a Powderfinger best-of with a bonus DVD of all of the band's clips, much like the recent Red Hot Chilli Peppers best of. I look forward to the next Powderfinger album when they all play violin with their teeth in a desperate attempt to sound different.

While in the shop I got to hear half of Britney's new album. Toxic is a listenable song, but much of the rest of the album is pretty tragic, sounding like a lame cover of popular music in the '00s. Some of it even sounded like John Farnham which got me thinking about Playing To Win which by the way, I could definitely hear Dream Theater covering.

Speaking of Dream Theater... I went and ordered both Liquid Tension Experiment albums from Amazon, as well as the Dream Theater Live DVD of ...Memory. All of that based on one downloaded L.T.E. song. It was THAT GOOD. Guitar solos and keyboard interplay on speed.
