Been messing with a few DVD Authoring tools lately and can give the following update:
- DVDLab is far superior as far as menu creation is concerned. Infinite control over everything. A few bugs to work out but they're only at version 1.3.
- Unfortunately I found DVDLab introduced some skipping/jittery video effects on my videos once the final DVD was compiled. Their help suggested the files I created were not DVD compatible but I followed their rules and the rules for creating high quality files using TMPGEnc. I'd have loved to have used DVDLab but it seems it isn't read for me yet.
- TMPGEnc is very restrictive in it's menu creation compared to DVDLab but it's getting better. TMPGEnc DVD Author has so far created flawless DVDs with files created in TMPGEnc Encoder (2.5).
- Given most of my DVDs won't even have menus I'm using TMPGEnc.
- The freebie software I got with the DVD-R, Sonic My-DVD is useable and has produced non-flickery DVDs, but it's a little too restrictive for me and will not (easily) do chapter points with non-Sonic produced files so I've dumped it.
In short, I'm using TMPGEnc until DVDLab improves it's output a bit. DVDLab Pro looks fantastic and does everything you could ever want (multiple audio tracks, subtitles, full control over absolutely everything) stuff that no other (sub US$200) software will do, but it's munging my video so I can't use it.
It makes me sad.
