Verse Chorus Verse Chorus Middle8 Chorus  #

Within this blog post are links to two MP3s where someone has mashed two songs together by the same band to proove their songs sound the same. The Nickelback is particularly brilliant as almost no effort or changes were required. The Linkin Park one isn't as good and a fair bit more forcing has been required (the song in the left ear has been slowed down a lot, the song in the right speed up).

As a musician I laugh but I feel their pain. It's very difficult as a band, particularly a band that writes pop rock music, to break out of the (verse / chorus / verse / chorus / solo / (optional verse) / chorus) mould without sounding like you're trying to break out of that mould.

I hate far too many bands (hate is a strong word... dislike... am not interested in...) simply because they're obviously changing chords every five seconds and singing random crap to avoid sounding pop. You can avoid sounding like pop without being shit. Not a lot of people can do it it seems. We don't even try. We like pop.

Maybe that's just my taste...
