Telstra is planning on rolling out optical fibre to schools, police, government buildings and evenutually direct to homes and businesses in Victoria. [The Age]

All connections will be 4Gb up and 4Gb down.

It'll probably be expensive though:

[...] cost will be a factor for the private sector, Mr Fong suggests. "Termination of fibre into homes and small businesses is still expensive," he says.

Japanese vs. the business suit  #

In order to save on energy wasted on air-conditioning, Japanese officials have requested that employees leave their ties and dark business jackets at home.

Article @ Taipei Times

I look forward to seeing productivity statistics to proove once and for all that ties and business suits are a pointless torture device that can only lead to the Dark Side.

Longhorn (the new Microsoft Windows) has dropped the "My" prefix to ... everything [via Slashdot].

You'll now have Documents, Computer, Music, Pictures folders you never use.

It's particularly telling for Music because these days the DRM'd music and video you download isn't actually YOURs. You've just paid for the right to use it now. You don't OWN it. Microsoft don't want you to get the wrong idea just because of some silly My prefix.

But don't get to excited. I'm sure by the time Longhorn eventually comes out they'll have dropped this "feature" too.

Maybe they'll start a trend. Maybe bands will stop adding "The" to the start and pluralising their The Bandnames for no frigging reason.
