Each time previously we'd sat at tables. Last time we were there we had sushi combinations that impressed us no end. Not quite as fantastic as the Sushi plate we had at Sea World but still good.
This time we sat at the bar and ordered "Omakase" ("let the chef decide"). Face to face with the incredibly friendly chef (Hiro Nishikura) as he created the most AMAZING sushi either of us has ever tasted. Ten times better than anything I've ever put in my mouth. Taste explosion. A couple of times I almost blanked out in a world of taste.
I urge you, sushi fans, to stop what you're doing and go, now (ring first).
I must warn, it is very expensive. Prepare to blow your savings.
The most expensive sushi we've ever had. Sushi at Sea World Nara was around $60 each. This was (for the full course) around $85 each. You can stop the Omakase at any point, but a full course is seven (or eight?) sets of two. Each set of two will set you back about $8 to $10 each. Listen to the chef's instructions ("soy sauce! no soy sauce!").
My tummy still feels good.
I couldn't really say it better than this, from The Age, from various published reviews:
" [...] to take it all the way, you must sit at the bar to take the omakase option. Sushi purity. This is your no-menu, don't-stop-till-you've-hadenough, interview-with-the-devil of sushi."
