If you could identify any buildings I haven't labelled properly (in image ALT/TITLE tag) that would be nice.
Also, if you happen to have a similar photograph from modern times that looks different due to new development I'd love to see it. I'm guessing that the photograph of Tower Bridge would look pretty different now.
It's time travel at it's best.
It describes many of Melbourne's buildings and explains their origins. Lovely. Time travel back to the 1800s and early 1900s. Sweet.
But on top of that it's the 1980 edition. Super sweet! Some of the buildings described no longer exist (for example the buildings that were where the Rialto Towers stands now). Some buildings no longer house the businesses described (eg. Georges). It describes Brunswick Street as run down and filled with warehouses.
For both of those reasons it's a great read.
But ultimately, it's not good enough. The descriptions of the building's history are too brief and there is a disturbing lack of photographs. I'd forgive brief descriptions if it was filled with photographs.
I need to get a hold of the Melbourne architecture book I saw at City Museum on Friday.
