Neil Gaiman says things that make me smile:

And the other thing is Hollywood executives really love the smell of their own urine and what they really like doing is urinating on things. And then going, "Hmm, now this smells really good" and being really puzzled when the rest of the world goes "No, actually it smells like pee.

This happens a lot when you're in a band...

It's been ages since I've done one of these. I liked the 10/5/1 year aspect of it. Stole it from AJ. You know who you are. Don't you?

What was I doing 10 years ago:
Year 12. Probably getting ready for exams. I hadn't yet drunk a whole beer in my life. I'd have been playing guitar for no more than a year (I can't remember exactly when I started). A month ago I saw Faith No More @ Festival Hall. I was very very sad.

5 years ago:
Putting together the final plans for my trip to San Francisco with Dave. Working at MP3.com.au for a few months now. Loving it. I'd only been going out with Katie for a few months. I was still going to a lot of Pre_Shrunk gigs. My band was months from playing their first gig. We'd only just been named. I, like everyone, was getting really excited about online music and copyright. I was kinda happy.

1 year ago:
Busy burning myself out playing too many gigs with Walken. Last night we'd just played a gig at The Pony for RMITV. That said, I was enjoying myself. Living in Malvern. We were seriously looking for a house. In a months time we'd fail in our first attempt at a bid. Regurgitator was about to leave the Bubble. I was happy.

5 snacks:

  • Peppermint Cadbury chocolate (roll)
  • Sandwitch: Cheese, Capsicum, Tomato, lotsofpepper, Ham, Salami, toast it
  • Vegemite jaffles
  • Piece of toast, piece of cheese, fold in half
  • Tea. Lots of different kinds of tea

I like bread.

5 songs I know all the words to:
I'm not very good with lyrics. Lyrics are for the weak as they (I) say. I'm pretty familiar with Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica and Faith No More as I listened to them all to death when I was a teen. Them words be just silly bulls.

5 things I would do with $100 million:
That's a lot of money... better get silly... I think "quit my job and never work again" is assumed. So...

  • Attempt to buy the rights to some art I like from the tools who won't release it or art that should be public domain but is buried in libraries or behind corporate walls (eg. Johnny Got His Gun, historical photographs of Melbourne)
  • Help fund some legal cases I might agree with at the time
  • Buy or build a venue to house bands. Tack on a recording studio
  • Become an insane collector of all sorts of historical and modern artifacts
  • Build the dream house

I'd include travel in there but I'll include that as part of the job description of insane collector. If it were more money I'd give up on the house and have no fixed address although $100m would probably be enough to do that too. Who really knows.

5 places to run away to:

  • Melbourne
  • San Francisco
  • London
  • Space
  • Underground lair / band venue

5 things I would never wear:

  • Lots of bling
  • An army uniform
  • Long hair
  • Knee high socks
  • No fat chicks t-shirt

5 favourite TV shows

  • Spaced
  • Six Feet Under
  • Futurama
  • Babylon 5
  • Music (videos)

I don't think it's fair to say the stuff I'm watching now is my "favourite" as it might not stand the test of time but all I watch on TV these days is:

  • House
  • Myth Busters
  • Gardening Australia (it's your bloomin' lot)
  • Dr Who

5 biggest joys:

  • Friends + family
  • Music
  • Discovery of the unknown
  • Building something useful
  • Beer

So discovering a new beer while out with friends, discussing building something useful (tm) and listening to music I liked that I'd never heard before would be almost heaven.
