It's one thing to ban gay marriage here in Australia, but it's another to actively prevent your citizens from going overseas and getting married there. [The Age]

The embassy later provided Mr Kakucska with a stamped "certification" dated August 16 and signed by Mr Dobias, the senior consular officer.

It stated: "Following the advice of the Australian Attorney-General's Department we herewith certify that Australian law does not allow the issue of a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage to persons wishing to enter into a same-sex marriage."

DJs should stick to using vinyl anyway  #

UK DJs that use digital versions of songs to mix may be breaking the law if they haven't paid a special fee that most seem to be unaware of (via BoingBoing).

DJs are supposed to pay a few (few hundred dollars) per digital device.

Insanely, the law also restricts how long the DJ can fade between songs! Maximum of two seconds. Tell that to Jeff Mills who plays three songs at once for minutes at a time. It's the whole point. Or to the piles of cash made in the last decade from "mashups" and remixes. A genre created by DJs.

Although there is no restriction on file format now, soon "digital DJs" will HAVE to use DRM by law so their DJ mixes cannot be recorded.

Watch as the music industry attempts to kill one of it's biggest genres. The exact genre that is most likely to laugh their ass off at you.

Who writes these laws? Really? Obviously there is no community input.

BTW, I can deal with DJs having to pay the standard "broadcast" fee when they play a song, just like a radio. That system has works for decades. Why squeeze more out of it?
