I can't help but think they chose Eddie because everywhere they looked, there he was. It's like the other day I was at the supermarket and they kept randomly playing a snippet of the Aeroplane Jelly song. When I was in the dessert isle I thought "what do I want" and the first thing I thought of was "hey, I want some jelly, maybe some Aeroplane Jelly". I doubt anyone at Channel 9 could even think of anything but Eddie.
Channel 9 background noise: "Eddie eddie lostthefooty eddie eddie eddie mulyenaire eddie eddie..."
Current CEO: "Hmmm, who eddie should eddie be the new CEO eddie?"
Channel 9 background noise: "Eddie eddie eddie..."
Peon: "What about Eddie?"
I think Channel 9 is wallpapered in Eddie. Actual bits of Eddie grown in a vat. It smells and attacts flies but everyone loves it coz it's Eddie.
Unfortunately, with Eddie out of the picture, I can see Lavinia Me!bourne Nixon becoming the new default host for everything. Oh joy.
Hey, maybe Eddie will dive right in and get the old Channel 9 logo back. Why did they change it? Why? I don't care, but... why?! Why not just rename the channel Channel IX and really blow all your brand recognition out of the water. Why do companies do this? No wait, don't tell me, your 800 page marketing documents aren't fit for my toilet paper. I don't want to know.
Prime Minister John Howard said elected politicians should make the decision rather than people "who are not accountable".
A doctor is bound by a sworn oath to heal. A doctor can be sued for a bad decision. A doctor can be instantly fired and have criminal charges brought against them for a bad decision. A doctor must weigh up decisions on a person by person basis. A doctor must go school for almost a decade before they're allowed to make these decisions.
Compare that to our elected members who could probably do anything (like say, shoot a baby on prime time news) and still get re-elected as long as they didn't do it a week from the election. Because governments are elected on everything they do, not one particular thing.
Yeah, let politians make the decisions because they're "more accountable".
