I missed the first band but on stepping through the door received a verbal apology for not being thanked in the liner notes (I partially recorded the bonus live track). Not expected of course but nice.
Watched Dr. Invisiablo who has some great riffs and excellent song-endings but failed to hold me for whole songs. I'd see 'em again though.
After a long wait and some drinks we were entertained by a hula-hoop girl. I don't think that needs any more explanation.
We helped out with the food eating contest BBQ and watched the eating carnage with the ever growing crowd.
I vaguely listened to Bakelite Age through the windows while in the beer garden eating left over sausage but didn't go and watch.
Toxic finally came on around 10pm. The entrance was typical indie band... stand around looking confused and then realise it's time to play. The impressive entrance of the last CD launch (two years ago, same venue) with opening curtain and zombie make up was missed.
The gig was great though. Big, happy crowd for a Sunday @ The Tote (100 or so people). A few technical problems as would be expected with Rob's athletics and some great performances of some well loved songs. A few songs I hadn't heard before which was a treat, particularly because they didn't suck.
It got to 11 and the band were told by Tote officials to get off. The crowd screamed for more. The band went to start an encore. The Tote official repeated his request. The crowd screamed for more. They played their encore... the consequences are unknown...
I had a great time, it was almost like a party with bands playing than a gig. Everyone had a ball.
Go get the CD. It's only $5. It's cool.
Let's hope the next one isn't another two years away.
Not that my band can talk. A year and a half since our last gig and counting.
