Gardening leason number 1:

Be sure to direct the hose emptying your old roof hot water system of 100 or so litres of 60C+ water into the drain, not the lawn...

Lawn burnt by hot water

I really should redo that photo with something for size. Like the dog. Yeah, the dog...

Tenacious D : The Pick Of Destiny trailer.

I'm sure I'm going to love it, but it doesn't look like anything but a better produced version of the TV series, which is unfortunate.

I just want the soundtrack.

Abolish the States  #

More calls to abolish the states [The Age].

This article even goes as far as to call for the removal of councils, keeping only federal government and more powerful local organisations.

Sure, keeping the states around is expensive. $30 billion a year apparently.

But hospitals are expensive too. If people just stopped being sick all the time we've save TRILLIONS! I'm a genius.

I hate the state and federal governments blaming each other for everything, and yet I like having multiple governments with different opinions stopping the federal government doing whatever they wish. In fact, giving people a choice to live in the political climate they most approve of.

And yet, how much power do the states have any more? Should we give them more power or less? ACT tried to do the right thing and allow legal gay partnerships but the federal government stopped them. The Victorian government is doing everything it can to counteract the new IR laws, and yet how effective are they going to be? Is it just advertising?

The councils seem rather pointless at times but it seems like the only government the "common person" has any chance of getting their hands on and the easiest government an elector has to communicate with. That isn't something you could easily take away.

What to do...
