Darkness loses Justin Hawkins  #

Justin Hawkins (vocals, guitar) has quit The Darkness [Darkness mySpace blog].

The Darkness gig I saw at The Palace in Melbourne this year was one of the most entertaining gigs I've ever seen.

Before seeing them live I always assumed that Justin took a singing role and that was all. It turns out he plays most of the guitar solos and a good deal of the rest of the song too. I can only assume that he took a major role in the creation of the music I enjoy so much.

The Darkness Wikipedia page suggests their bass player, Richie Edwards, will take over the lead role in the band.

During the gig the bass player, a new member, sang a couple of songs (AC/DC covers). His voice was good, especially for AC/DC, but he could never replace Justin.

Maybe I'll be proved wrong.

I also spotted in the article that Justin performed Sparks' track This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us in 2005 as a solo single under the name British Whale. I must track that down.
