Anymore  #

I never noticed that "anymore" isn't a word until Firefox 2.0 underlined it in dotted red for me.

Google searches lead me to the alt usage english page detailing "any more" vs. "anymore":

Opinion concerning "anymore" vs "any more" divides roughly into three camps:

  1. There is no such word as "anymore". It is simply a misspelling.
  2. "Anymore" and "any more" are two ways of spelling the same thing, and the two have the same meaning.
  3. There is a useful difference in meaning between the two.

I don't care what you think, I'm going for option 2.

Right click, Add to dictionary.

Update: Make that option 3. As in...

I hope I don't have to add any more words to Firefox's dictionary, but at least I don't have to add "anymore" anymore.

BTW, Firefox isn't in there either...

Gremlins soundtrack  #

I've been fishing around for the Gremlins soundtrack for a couple of months after deciding that the Gremlins Rag is one of the best songs in the universe.

Turns out it's been deleted for over a decade, to the point that bootlegs of it were released to cover demand. Even those have long since disappeared from the market.

The soundtrack shows up on eBay every now and then and sells for over US$50.

For a while I used it as an example of exactly the sort of thing that should be on iTunes and other such websites, but isn't.

After finally getting to hear it through conventional methods I discovered why it isn't available any more.

It sucks.

I suspect it has been deliberately deleted to save our ears from harm.

It's an excellent example of the 80's getting excited about electronic music, but not yet realising how crap it is.

The "Gremlins Rag" that everyone knows and that is so often "covered" on "best of the soundtrack" cheapo compilations is best performed during the credits to Gremlins 2: New Batch, the soundtrack to which is easily bought on Amazon for a reasonable prise.

Now you know.

By the way, the Gremlins 2 soundtrack isn't much better, but at least it's a real orchestra, or sounds like one. The random "boing" noises are distracting though...

Jerry Goldsmith has been involved in a scary amount of music...

Update: In a nice demonstration of how stupid the CD vs. DVD market is it's worth noting that you can purchase BOTH Gremlins movies together for $20, and yet you cannot purchase the soundtrack to only one of those movies for under $25...
