Wasps also seem to love the smell of freshly cut/sanded wood and they were out in force when I was sanding the fence, jumping onto any area as soon as I finished. And don't get me started on our uncovered compost (we've fixed that).
They're fairly harmless. They don't seem to be going out of their way to hurt anyone. But you could say that about roaming crocodiles too.
Apparently it's the mild winter and lack of rain that's encouraging breading and pushing them out looking for food and water.
I'm going to start blaming bugs in the software at work on the drought.
