St Kilda's Palace entertainment complex is to close next month after a long-running battle over a planned redevelopment of the site.

The venue's operators today released a statement announcing the closure.

Twenty concerts and events due to be staged at the complex will be cancelled, according to the statement.

It's the history I think it's a pity to lose. The venue itself isn't the best in the world. If it's replaced with a better band venue it's hard to complain.
