Broadband has somehow become an election issue. Welcome to the 21st century. The ALP promises to build a broadband network with some of the Future Fund, while Liberals promise to make sure it happens without spending any tax payer money ("trust me").

Either way, they could both argue pretty strongly that broadband is one of the better answers for helping global warming.

Introduce reliable government sponsored broadband, and follow it up with incentives for people to work remotely at home. Allow video conference calls with government agencies instead of forcing personal interviews.

Extend Paul Keating's "move parliament to Sydney" idea and simply abolish physical parliament sittings in Canberra and allow virtual sittings.

Do the maths, this could probably save zillions of little black balloons.

Or force duplication of services, because you'll always have to have the physical service as a backup.

Welcome to my world.
