Myki  #

Dropped by the Myki showoff tent at Southern Cro... Spencer Street station today to ask some rather important questions to a seriously bored looking question answerer.

myki ticketing system will work thusly:

  • When you get on public transport swipe your myki
  • When you get off, swipe your myki

Magic technologies looks at your travel over the week and works out the cheapest travel cost. They will set up swiper things on the right and left of each entrance/exit of each bus/tram and at the usual ticket machine places at train stations.

Sounds great! But what happens if you forget to swipe off? Or can't (due to too many people)? Or it doesn't work? You will be charged a "you stuffed up you loser" fee that has yet to be announced. Probably the same as if you had travelled all day.

As I'm likely to be travelling in the morning and afternoon of each day I doubt any accidental swipes will make any real difference. I suspect I'll end up on a "monthly" plan by the end of the month anyway.

I'd like to see it be smart enough to be able to analyse my usual travel parameters and give me the benefit of the doubt if I forget to swipe off the bus at some point when I usually do. But I doubt that will ever happen.
