Radiohead's new album  #

Radiohead have announced their new album, "In Rainbows", and will provide two ways to purchase it:

  • As a digital download, where the buyer can name their price
  • As a "disc box" containing the album in both CD and vinyl form with many extra tracks

The "disc box" will sell for 40 pounds which is about AUS$100.

Problem is, I like CDs. For another band I might have been happy to spend $100 for a box of crap, but not for Radiohead.

I'd prefer to spend $20 on a CD version of the album.

But I guess if I want to hear it I'll have to go pay "something, I dunno, whatever" for a digital download version. I'm OK with that, but it's vaguely irritating.

Thing is, I love the idea, I think it's brilliant, they're cutting out the middle man, going indie. The record companies are shitting themselves, worried that if this works all of their big acts will do the same.

I just don't like not having a CD as an option.

Perhaps I'm getting old.
