Mr Howard yesterday said he was "sorry" about the pain the rise - the sixth since the 2004 election - would cause borrowers. But today he denied that amounted to an apology.
He said he was sorry the rise happened but was not apologising for it.
"I said I was sorry they occurred. I don't think I used the word apology," Mr Howard told reporters.
"I think there is a difference between the two things. I think we've been through that debate before in the context of something else.
So he is saying that "sorry" means he is sorry that something occurred.
Therefore, refusing to say sorry "in the context of something else" is like saying he isn't sorry something occurred.
Is this not an unambiguous statement indicating he refuses to say "sorry" for the treatment of Australia's traditional owners because he isn't sorry that it happened?
Just putting two and two together...
