Bus fun  #

Last night I was sitting up the back of the bus happily reading about zombie wars when the bus stopped (as it does occasionally) and after a second or so, the engine cut out.

Not completely weird. I ignored it. Not long after, the bus starts to roll backward. I look up. I can't see the bus driver. I have time to start imagining him run after us as we roll backwards down the road smashing into cars screaming like babies when a kid next to me screams "hand break!"

Half a second later the bus suddenly stops. The bus driver was there, just from my angle I couldn't see him. I'm guessing he was trying to apply the foot break but perhaps it doesn't work with the engine off.

Thanks kid.

We'd hardly started moving, but that "hey, maybe I might get hurt" feeling had almost kicked in.

It's been a while...

Update: Either the internet was right or it has blown over. I gave her a little bit of her food just before bed and she slept through the whole night and wasn't sick. Hooray!

I hope you're not eating...

Wednesday morning the dog threw up all over the laundry. Little bits of brown at first, then piles and piles of frothy, snotty, white and yellow bile. I put her out with her food, cleaned up, and when I got out she was full of food and happy for a play. We "chucked the purple thing" for a bit and she seemed fit. Full of beans.

Last night she threw up again. Same story, just much less bile. Only a little bit this time. Definite food looking chunks this time.

I've read a little today that suggests spewing bile often means they're hungry and that a little snack at night might make them keep the tummy acid down. She's fed in the morning and only once so being hungry wouldn't be a surprise.

The last few weeks she has seemed hungrier than usual. Usually she would eat a little, have a nap for a bit then eat the rest. The last few weeks she's wolfed the lot down quickly and asked for more. But she's a dog. That's what they're supposed to do. Eat and eat and ask for more.

I worry vaguely that she may be hungry because of a tummy blockage. Especially because of the food looking chunks. She shouldn't have anything that resembles food in her gut after more than ten hours.

I only think blockage because that's what eventually killed my family cat after 15 years. The last few weeks our cat spewed bile because nothing would stay down. But that was cancer.

This, if anything, is more likely to be an accidentally swallowed apple core.

If I get home and she's still full of beans I'll give her another night. If she chucks again it's straight to the vet on Friday.

Poor little mutt.
