Rhino just doesn't care  #

It's official, Rhino Records lumps Faith No More in the bulk discount, multi-disc cheapo bucket. A band who's tracks are nothing more than best-of filler, to release yearly, aiming directly for the bargain bin.

Their latest release, Faith No More "The Works" is a three disc collection of Faith No More tunes with a "disc of rarities". Except it's not. It's a combination of the two main Faith No More best-ofs, with a third disc of mostly "Live At Brixton" plus "The Perfect Crime", a rarity released on so many cheapo FNM collections it's no longer rare.

"The Works" it most certainly isn't.

But maybe no-one cares?

Tivo out in July?  #

TV Tonight, via Sydney Morning Herald:

TiVo will launch in July after a surprise move by Seven Media to scrap a monthly subscription fee for the broadband-enabled service.

Its arrival launch will be the first serious competitor to Foxtel's iQ2 which will require installation or upgrade fees plus a monthly subscription.

Some observers say Seven's move could trigger steep discounting from Foxtel.

Seven recently bought Unwired, a wireless broadband company, and as expected, Tivo will be sold through them, via retailers like Harvey Norman.

"No monthly fee" is intriguing. I was expecting a small monthly fee and almost no upfront cost, but no monthly fee is fantastic. I expect Tivo will try to make money via it's broadband enabled services (video/music downloads).

No word on how it will all work though. I assume Tivo will include wireless ethernet, but will it connect directly to the net or via your own router?

They're pushing Tivo as a "premium product" and as a PVR with extras. As such, I'm guessing it will cost around $600, the cost of most two-channel-HD PVRs on the market now.

But Tivo has a working, official, program guide. Hopefully it's of better quality than the ones you get with digital TV.
