The drain pipe popped out of it's hole, and the machine emptied itself at least three times onto the laundry floor.
We learnt all sorts of interesting stuff about how our house leans.
Apparently it leans down the hill (south). It leans enough that none of the water made it to the toilet or out the back door (only a metre or so from the machine). Most of the water pooled in the kitchen (tiled), none made it to the lounge room (floorboards), a little into the bathroom and hall (tiled) and just a bit into the computer room (carpeted). We were lucky really. And the kitchen badly needed a mop anyway. In fact, just that morning I was thinking the kitchen needed a mop.
I made it happen.
It only made it into the computer room because of a crack in the grout next to the metal strip that separates the tiles from the carpet. The water actually soaked through the carpet from underneath. Joy.
So now I have a patch of stinky/stained carpet at the doorway of the nerd room. That's OK, the carpet was rubbish anyway, but I'm vaguely worried about the floorboards.
We also leaned that our oven/cooktop combo thing is not only really easy to move (it's super light) but also wired directly into the wall*, not plugged in as we had thought. Replacing it will require an electrician. Something else to add to the when-the-sparky-comes list. Dang. Not that there is really anything wrong with our oven.
(*Update: apparently this is normal)
It could have been worse, the dog bedding actually soaked up a great deal of water.
Hooray for puppies.
